The Method Behind the Results
My tuition supports students across everything an exam demands, from learning key concepts and closing gaps in knowledge to perfecting exam technique and intensive exam preparation. I use my structured, results-focused method, designed for students aiming for top grades.
Goals and Roadmap
After identifying the student's needs and academic goals, I lay out a roadmap to reach them. At onboarding, students are provided with the tools to succeed from the start, including guidance on study skills, how to use specifications and mark schemes, glossaries of scientific vocabulary and recommended resources.
This guidance is based on the same strategies behind my own academic success, and it has since supported hundreds of students towards theirs.
Consistent, Structured Lessons
Lessons are delivered using Google Meet with an online whiteboard, each built on a 'learn, recall and test' structure and focused on developing deep understanding of a topic. I teach from my own exam-board-specific notes, refined over 9+ years, with concise bullet points, diagrams and summary tables. With the notes built around the exact scientific vocabulary and response structures that mark schemes reward, students learn the core content alongside learning exactly how to phrase high-scoring answers right from the start.
I explain each concept clearly, provide memory tricks and use Socratic-style quizzes to check knowledge. I move at the student's pace, repeat concepts as many times as required and firmly believe there are no silly questions. After each lesson, resources are uploaded to Google Classroom, a short feedback report is provided and homework is set using retrieval methods to embed concepts into long-term memory.
Exam Technique
A major part of every lesson is exam technique, developed by going through exam questions once the student is confident with the theory. I provide comprehensive packs of past-paper questions on each topic, so students practise the common and the most challenging question types early.
I show them frameworks to answer different questions effectively, how to interpret command words and utilise hints, how to structure long-answer responses, and how to use the necessary scientific language to score marks. Together we practise exam questions and construct model answers that students keep for revision, and we keep track of school assessment results to check students are on track for their target grade.
Exam Preparation
As mocks and real exams approach, lessons focus on the student's most challenging topics and skills through focused revision sessions. We work through past papers and sharpen exam technique, including how to answer practical, calculation and data-analysis questions where needed.
Students are given checklists, topic summaries, posters and worksheets for targeted revision outside lessons.
Pre-Exam
The run-up to exams is the most important stage. Students receive a recommended revision timetable, a past-paper tracker, revision guidance and topic predictions, and lessons focus on those predicted topics and the demanding 4 to 6 mark questions that determine top grades.
From working through past papers, we identify the difficult topics and questions still costing marks and revisit them until they are mastered. Finally, we make sure details from unit conversions and equations to command words are secure, as these separate one grade from the next.
